Why this internship will rock:
- 3. Day. Weekends. Eight in a row, in fact. That's right-- I work Tues-Fri. And I'm just fine starting at 7am. Grad school made me a morning person.
- I can wear flip flops to work.
- I get my own office- a conference room with huge windows.
- Casual Fridays! I can wear jeans and my snazzy new ORS t-shirt.
- My commute is approximately 8 minutes.
- I won't have to write a single treatment note-I'll dictate all my documentation, which is then sent out to be transcribed.
- Did I mention 2-hour lunch breaks?!
So, apparently my next 9 weeks are going to be pretty great. The clinic is gigantic- 12 treatment rooms, 2 gyms, an underwater treadmill, and wings dedicated to work hardening and hand therapy too. ORS employs 5 full-time PTs, 2 PTAs, 2 ATs, and 2 OTs, plus more techs and administrative staff than I can count. Oh- and every treatment room is dedicated to a different sports team. Despite the predominance of Chicago sports teams, there is a Vikings room!
My CI (clinical instructor) for this week-- Woody-- is hilarious, and from his patients' testimonies, extremely talented. Beginning next week, I'll be with Dave, the clinic's co-owner, who happens to be on vaca in Hayward at the moment. This week, I'll see a lot of spine patients (I need to review Maitland ASAP...), and with Dave, it'll be a lot more knees and shoulders. And to top the day off, I was even invited to next weekend's Fantasy Football Draft and promised plenty of free beer if I showed up.

Slightly exhausted by the time I got home, I still forced myself to go for a run. And I take it as a sign that the Twins game isn't on TV- time to review. McKenzie and Maitland and muscle energy, oh my! All that reading sounds like I'm going to need a little help from a DQ blizzard.... (Gotta get there before closing time!) Over and out.
This is awesome! Very well written, to the point and I hope you continue to enjoy your experience in Rodkford, IL.....
ReplyDeleteDQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh.... is that not the point of this post?!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at flipflops to work. How do I change my clinical sites again? :)
